- 6 c. bran
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. melted shortening or oil
- 3 c. sugar
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 5 c. flour
- 5 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 qt. buttermilk
- 1 c. raisins
Directions

1Pour the boiling water over 2 cups bran and let stand while assembling other ingredients.

2Add shortening to the soaked bran, then add the rest of the bran, sugar, eggs and buttermilk.

3Sift flour, soda and salt and add to the bran mixture.

4Mix well.

5Bake as needed in 400° oven for 20 minutes.

6Batter keeps in refrigerator up to 6 weeks.

7Makes 5 to 6 dozen muffins.
