- 2 c. (slightly stale) bread or cake
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. sugar
- stewed dried apricots or tart jelly or prepared pie filling
Directions

1Cut bread or cake into cubes and put into casserole dish.

2Beat 3 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg (reserve 3 egg whites).

3Add sugar, milk and vanilla.

4Mix well.

5Pour over bread, making sure all cubes are covered.

6Bake at 350° approximately 45 minutes or until set.

7Take out and cover with fruit.

8Beat egg whites until stiff, adding 2 teaspoons sugar.

9Cover fruit with this meringue and return casserole to oven for approximately 10 to 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown.
