  • 2 c. day old bread or other bread cubes
  • 4 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 to 1 c. coarsely chopped pecans (if desired)
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Directions

    Heat oven to 350°.

    In large bowl, soak bread in milk 5 minutes.

    Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs and vanilla; mix well. Stir in pecans.

    Pour into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.

    Sprinkle with nutmeg.

    Place baking dish in pan of hot water in oven.

    Bake about 1 hour.
