- 1 small onion, peeled and studded with 3 cloves
- 2 cups milk
- 2 1/2 cups fresh white breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- salt
- black pepper
Directions

1Put the onion and milk in the top of a double boiler and bring very slowly to just below the boiling point.

2Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to stand for 20 minutes, so as to infuse the milk with the flavor of the onion and cloves.

3Discard the onion and add the breadcrumbs to the milk. Return to the heat, still using a double boiler.

4Stir until the sauce thickens.

5Then stir in the butter, nutmeg and sour cream.

6Add salt and pepper to taste.
