Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 2/3 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. nuts

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add rest of dry ingredients. Blend.

    Add raisins-water mixture and nuts.

    Fill to half 4 (No. 2) cans that have been well oiled or greased.

    Bake 1 hour at 350° or until bread springs back when pressed lightly.

    Cool 5 minutes, then remove from cans.

    Finish cooling.

    (Freezes well.)

    Any No. 2 vegetable or fruit can will do.
