Ingredients
- 1 c. rye meal
- 1 c. Indian meal
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 c. sweet milk
- 1 c. sour milk
Directions

1Mix rye meal, Indian meal and salt.

2Stir molasses into sweet milk.

3Stir soda into sour milk and add to molasses mixture.

4Stir milk mixtures into dry ingredients.

5Mix well.

6Pour into buttered brown bread mold; cover.

7Set on wooden rack in kettle of hot water, having enough water to come partway up on mold, but not enough to float it.

8Cover kettle; bring to boil gently and steam for 3 hours.

9To serve, place brown bread on plate and slice with a piece of string.

10Place string all the way around for desired thickness, cross ends and pull to slice.
