  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    For brownies, mix flour, sugar, and salt. In saucepan put margarine, water, and cocoa. Bring to a boil and pour over flour mixture and stir. Beat egg. Add buttermilk and baking soda. Add to flour mixture. Add vanilla. Bake in 12 x 9-inch shallow pan that is well greased and floured. Bake 20 minutes at 350°. While cake is hot, frost it with icing. When slightly cool cut into squares.
