- 4 c. cubed, day-old, firm white or French bread
- 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 10 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 qt. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper
- 1/4 tsp. onion powder
- 8 to 10 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1/2 c. sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 c. chopped, peeled tomato
Directions

1Generously butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.

2Arrange bread cubes in dish and sprinkle with cheese.

3Beat eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt, dash of fresh ground pepper and onion powder together and pour over cheese and bread.

4Sprinkle with bacon, mushrooms and tomato.

5Cover and chill up to 24 hours.

6Bake at 325°, uncovered, until set (about 1 hour).

7Tent with foil if top begins to overbrown.
