  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 3 Tbsp. liquid shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. plain flour
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. salt (scant)
  • 1 c. chopped pecans

Directions

    Mix raisins, dates, soda and water; let cool.

    Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.

    Add vanilla, flour and salt.

    Blend and add pecans.

    Bake in 3 (1 pound) coffee cans or 6 (16 ounce) cans (sprayed with Pam) for 1 hour at 350°.
