Burgundy Chili

Ingredients
- 1/2 c. finely chopped onion
- 1 lb. ground beef chuck
- 1/2 c. hot water
- 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp. cooking oil
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. dried basil
- 1 (1 lb. 11 oz.) can red kidney beans
- 1/2 c. red wine
Directions

1Cook onion, garlic and beef in heated oil until lightly browned.

2Stir hot water into chili powder; add to meat mixture along with tomatoes, salt and herbs.

3Cover and simmer over very low heat 45 to 50 minutes.

4Stir in wine and simmer, uncovered, about 20 minutes longer.

5Add beans and heat.

6Serve over hot polenta, rice or squares of corn bread.

7Serves 8.
