- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 2/3 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Cut shortening into dry ingredients until it resembles coarse meal.

2Add buttermilk and stir until it forms ball around fork. Knead 14 times, pat on floured board or waxed paper until 1/2-inch thick.

3Cut and place in 2 greased 8-inch cake pans.

4Bake at 425° for 15 to 20 minutes.
