  • 4 c. sifted flour (plain)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 3/4 c. shortening

Directions

    Sift flour once; measure, add baking powder, soda and salt and sift again.

    Cut in shortening; add milk gradually until soft dough is formed.

    Turn on floured board and knead lightly, 2 minutes.

    Roll to desired thickness; cut with floured cutter. Bake in shallow pan in hot oven at 450° for 12 minutes.

    Makes 2 1/2 dozen biscuits.
