  • 2 c. self-rising soft wheat flour
  • 1/8 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, melted

Directions

    Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until shortening is the size of peas.

    Add buttermilk, stirring with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened.

    Turn dough out onto a heavily floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.

    Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut with a round cutter.

    Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.

    Brush with butter.
