Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Combine yeast and warm water.

2Let stand 5 minutes. Add buttermilk to yeast mixture.

3Set aside.

4Combine all remaining ingredients except shortening in a large bowl.

5Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

6Add buttermilk mixture, stirring with a spoon until dry ingredients are moistened.

7Turn dough out

8onto a floured surface and knead. Let set 1 hour. Roll dough 1/2-inch and cut.

9Place on greased baking sheets for 1 hour.

10Bake at 425°.
