- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- scant 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Make crumbs of flour, sugar, salt and shortening; take out 1/2 cup for topping.

2Add baking powder, baking soda and buttermilk to remaining mixture.

3Add milk to crumb mixture and beat.

4Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) pans.

5Fill pans evenly.

6Sprinkle 1/2 cup crumbs on top.

7Bake in 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
