  • 1 c. Crisco or butter
  • 3 c. all-purpose plain flour
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/3 tsp. soda

Directions

    Cream shortening; add sugar gradually.

    Beat real good (several minutes), then add eggs, one at a time, beating each time.

    Add vanilla.

    Add soda to milk.

    Add flour and milk alternately to other ingredients.

    Bake in tube pan at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.

    This cake is good plain, frosted or frozen.

    Do not open oven door.
