- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
Directions

1Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Dissolve soda in buttermilk.

2Add buttermilk mixture, eggs and shortening to dry ingredients.

3Stir just until moistened.

4Pour batter into 9-inch cast-iron skillet (or pan).

5Bake at 450° for 20 minutes or until browned.
