- 3 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Heat 3 to 4-inches of oil to 375° in deep fryer.

2Measure 1 1/2 cups flour and the remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally.

3Stir in remaining flour. Turn dough onto well floured surface. Roll around lightly to coat with flour.

4Gently roll dough 3/8-inch thick.

5Cut with floured doughnut cutter. With wide spatula, slide doughnuts into hot fryer. Turn doughnuts as they rise to surface. Fry 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Carefully remove from oil.

6Drain.

7Serve plain, sugared or frosted. Makes 2 dozen.
