  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp. light corn syrup

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 c. chopped pecans

Directions

    Combine first 5 ingredients in a buttered Dutch oven.

    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches soft ball stage or candy thermometer registers 243°; remove from heat. Cool to 180°.

    Stir in vanilla.

    Beat at high speed with an electric mixer until mixture thickens and begins to lose its gloss.

    Stir in pecans.

    Pour into a buttered 8-inch square pan or baking dish; cool.
