Buttermilk Pound Cake

- 1/2 c. butter (no substitute)
- 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
- 3 c. sugar
- 5 whole eggs
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. boiling water
Directions

1Cream the butter, shortening and sugar thoroughly in a large bowl of electric mixer.

2Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

3Beat in vanilla.

4Combine flour with salt and add alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour. Dissolve soda in boiling water and beat into mixture.

5Pour into a greased and lightly floured tube pan and bake at 300° for about 1 1/2 hours, testing for doneness after 1 1/4 hours.

6Let rest 5 to 10 minutes before turning out.
