- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, chilled
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2/3 c. raisins, currants or other types of dried fruits
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400°.

2In large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

3Cut butter into 1/2-inch cubes and distribute them over flour mixture.

4Cut in butter until mixture resembles crumbs.

5In a small bowl, stir together the buttermilk, egg and vanilla.

6Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture; stir to combine.

7Stir in dried fruit (if desired).
