  • 2 1/4 c. cake flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Add butter, shortening, vanilla, 1 cup buttermilk and egg whites.

    Beat 2 minutes.

    Bake in 2 greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch round pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cool 10 minutes, then remove.
