- 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Chopped peanuts (optional)
Directions

1Combine sugar, flour, and egg in top of a double boiler; add milk. Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Stir until butter melts.

2Spoon butterscotch mixture into individual dessert cups, and serve warm or chilled. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts, if desired.
