Cabbage Casserole

Ingredients
- 1 large head cabbage, shredded
- 1 onion, chopped
- 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine, divided
- 1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
- 8 oz. American cheese, grated
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 c. dry bread crumbs
Directions

1Cook cabbage in boiling water until tender.

2Be sure to salt. Drain thoroughly.

3In a large skillet, saute onions in 5 tablespoons of butter until tender.

4Add soup and mix well.

5Add cheese; heat and stir until melted.

6Remove from heat.

7Stir in cabbage, salt and pepper.

8Transfer to 2-quart baking dish.

9In a small skillet, melt remaining butter until lightly brown. Sprinkle over casserole and bake uncovered at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes or until heated through.

10Makes 6 to 8 servings.
