Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 c. tomato juice or milk
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper and ground bay leaves
  • 1 lb. hot pork sausage
  • 1 1/2 c. Minute rice, uncooked
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 3/4 to 1 qt. tomato juice
  • 1 qt. sauerkraut

    Mix all but last 3 ingredients together.

    Parboil cabbage and separate leaves.

    Cut out thick part of leaf.

    Form oblong meat balls and roll up in cabbage leaves.

    Put layer of sauerkraut in bottom of roaster.

    Add cabbage rolls and cover with remaining sauerkraut.

    Pour tomato juice over top.

    Cover and bake for 2 hours at 300°.
