- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2/3 cup diced bacon
- 1 onion large, finely chopped
- 1 pound savoy cabbage shredded
- 8 3/4 cups boiling water
- 4 tablespoons rice
- 1/2 teaspoon meat extract or Maggi Seasoning
- salt
Directions

1Heat the oil in a large pan. Add the bacon and onion and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes, until the onion is beginning to brown.

2Add the cabbage, cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes.

3Pour in the boiling water and simmer for 10 minutes, then add the rice, and cook for 30 minutes more. Stir in the meat extract of Maggi Seasoning and serve in a soup tureen.
