- 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
- 1/3 c. milk
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. oats
- 1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1 c. margarine or butter, soft
- 1 pkg.(6 oz.) chocolate chips (1 c.)
- 1 c. chopped walnuts or dry roasted peanuts
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Heat caramels and milk in 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth; remove from heat and reserve.

3Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in large bowl.

4Stir in egg and margarine with fork until mixture is crumbly.

5Press half of the crumbly mixture in ungreased rectangular pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch).

6Bake 10 minutes.

7Sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts.

8Drizzle with caramel mixture. Sprinkle remaining crumbly mixture over top.

9Bake 20 to 25 minutes.

10Cool 30 minutes.

11Loosen edges from sides of pan.

12Cool completely.

13Yields 48 bars.
