Caramel Layer Bars

  • 1 (14 oz.) pkg. light caramels
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 c. margarine, melted
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 c. or 6 oz. chocolate chips

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Grease 9 x 13 pan.

    Combine in large bowl remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips.

    By hand, stir until dough holds together.

    Press one-half of dough into pan and reserve remaining dough for topping.

    Bake at 350° for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked crust, then spread caramel mixture over all.

    Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes.

    Cool completely.
