Caramel Pecan Pie

- 1/2 lb. (28) vanilla caramels
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 c. oleo
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. pecan halves
- 1 (8 1/2-inch) unbaked pastry shell
Directions

1Place vanilla caramels, water and oleo in the top of a double boiler.

2Heat, stirring frequently, until the caramels are melted and the sauce is smooth.

3Combine slightly beaten eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla.

4Gradually add the caramel sauce, mixing well. Add pecan halves.

5Pour into unbaked pastry shell.

6Bake in a 400° oven for 10 minutes.

7Reduce heat to 350°; continue baking for 30 minutes.

8The pie filling will appear to be very soft while hot, but will become firm as it cools.
