- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. butter
- 1 c. dark corn syrup
- 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Bring sugar, butter and corn syrup to boil in saucepan, stirring, then boil 4 minutes without stirring.

2Remove pan from heat.

3Add sweetened condensed milk; mix well.

4Return pan to heat; cook at medium-low boil for 30 minutes, or until mixture reaches 238° on candy thermometer, stirring constantly.

5Remove from heat.

6Stir in vanilla.

7Pour into buttered 9-inch square pan.

8Cool in pan 2 hours.

9Remove from pan; cut into 1-inch pieces with very sharp serrated knife.

10Wrap each piece in wax paper.

11Makes approximately 40 caramels.
