"Carolina Pound Cake"

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 3 1/4 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 drops yellow cake coloring

    Cream butter, Crisco and sugar with electric beaters 10 minutes.

    Add eggs, one at a time; continue creaming.

    Add flour, milk, salt, baking powder and almond extract.

    (Blend well all ingredients.)

    Pour into a well-greased, floured tube cake pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325°.
