  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 1/3 c. water
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 5 tbsp. shortening
  • 2 large carrots, grated
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda

Directions

    Mix first 8 ingredients in saucepan; cook slowly for 5 minutes.

    After it begins to boil remove from heat and let cool. Add remaining ingredients and a pinch of salt.

    Bake in a greased, floured 9x13 inch pan at 325° for 45-60 minutes.
