Cheese Straws

Ingredients

  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 1 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 stick (1/4 lb.) oleo or butter (mine was with butter)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper (I usually add a tad more)

Directions

    Sift flour before measuring.

    Add baking soda, salt and red pepper.

    Sift two more times.

    Grate cheese and butter.
  5. 5
    When soft enough, add flour a little at a time and mix all ingredients well. (I put cheese and butter in microwave on defrost for just a few seconds to help soften.)

    You can use a pastry utensil or work it with your hands to mix.

    Put through cookie press and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes or until brownness desired.

    Makes approximately 90 to 100 straws about 3 to 3 1/2 inches long.

    (I used cookie press disc with a star-like shape.)
