- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup water
- 3 cups rotini pasta
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions

1In a large nonstick skillet, cook the beef over high heat, stirring, for 3 to 5 minutes or until no longer pink.

2Pour off all but 1 tablespoons of fat.

3Add the onion, garlic, green pepper, basil and thyme and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes.

4Stir in the tomatoes and water and bring to a boil.

5Add the pasta and reduce the heat to simmer.

6Cover and cook, stirring frequently, for 20 minutes or until the pasta is tender.

7Stir in the salt, pepper and sugar.

8Remove from the heat and sprinkle with the mozzarella.

9Cover and let stand until the cheese has melted.
