Cherry Fruit Squares

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Directions

    Cream the softened margarine and sugar.

    Add the vanilla. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the sifted flour. Add nuts last.

    Spread 3/4 of the batter in a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.

    cover with the cherry pie filling.

    Drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls on top and spread it around as best you can. (The cherries should show through a bit.)

    Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.

    Cool and cut into little bars.

    Sprinkle with confectioners sugar if you like.
