Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz.) can pitted sour red cherries, undrained
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. skim milk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg white, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. corn oil margarine
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

    Combine cherries and 1/2 cup sugar in an 8-inch square baking pan, stirring well.

    Combine egg white, milk and vanilla, stirring well to blend.

    Pour over cherries.

    Combine flour and brown sugar in a small bowl, stirring well to mix.

    Cut in margarine with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

    Stir in nuts. Sprinkle crumb mixture over top.

    Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown.
