- 400 g canned chick-peas (drained and rinsed)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 1 garlic clove (crushed)
- 2 inches piece gingerroot (grated)
- 14 teaspoon red chili powder
- 12 teaspoon cumin powder
- 14 teaspoon coriander powder
- 14 teaspoon turmeric
- 14 teaspoon salt
- 1 fresh tomatoes or 200 g canned tomatoes
- 1 pinch garam masala
Directions

1Heat a deep saucepan or a medium sized wok and add the oil or butter followed by the onions and garlic.

2Fry the mixture till the onions are caramelised.

3Then add the salt, cumin, coriander, turmeric and red chilli powders.

4Mix for a minute and tip in the tomatoes.

5Cook the sauce until it begins to thicken.

6Add 1/4 cup of water and stir.

7Then tip in the chickpeas and mix.

8Mash a few of the chickpeas while mixing.

9Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.

10Then add the ginger and the garam masala.

11Cook for another minute and serve.
