Chocolate Bread Pudding

  • 4 slices day-old white bread
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 3/4 c. chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 can water
  • whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Directions

    Remove crust from bread and place on bottom of well-buttered 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. Blend together eggs, milk, chocolate syrup and water; pour over bread.

    Push bread down slightly to soak up chocolate mixture.

    Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes, pushing bread down in mixture occasionally.

    Bake in preheated 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean.

    Serve warm or chilled and top with whipped cream or ice cream.
