  • 3 1/2 ounces plain chocolate
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 7 tablespoons butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 5/8 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 9/16 ounce vanilla essence
  • icing

    Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

    Line and grease a square cake pan.

    Melt the butter and chocolate and leave to cool.

    In a bowl, beat the sugar, egg and milk.

    In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, vanilla, salt, and baking powder. Add the butter and chocolate to the liquid mixture. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, a little at a time, and mix well until it forms a smooth batter.

    Place the mixture in a pan, smooth until level and bake for 30 minutes; the cake should be still soft and moist.

    Leave to cool and then cut into square chunks.

    Cover each piece with chocolate icing.
