- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 whole eggs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. boiling water
- 2 scant tsp. soda
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream sugar and Crisco well; add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition.

2Sift flour, cocoa, soda and salt together 3 times.

3Add alternately with milk.

4Add vanilla; add boiling water last.

5Bake in 9 x 13 1/2-inch greased and floured pan at 300° for 15 minutes; then at 325° for 10 to 15 minutes (or until done when tested with toothpick).
