  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 scant tsp. soda
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    Cream sugar and Crisco well; add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Sift flour, cocoa, soda and salt together 3 times.

    Add alternately with milk.

    Add vanilla; add boiling water last.

    Bake in 9 x 13 1/2-inch greased and floured pan at 300° for 15 minutes; then at 325° for 10 to 15 minutes (or until done when tested with toothpick).
