Chocolate-Cherry Cakes

- 1 c. brown sugar
- 2 sq. baking chocolate, melted and cooled
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. pecans, cut in large pieces
- 20 maraschino cherries, cut in thirds
Directions

1Cream shortening; add sugar and cream well.

2Add eggs and beat well.

3Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk, beating well.

4Lastly, add cooled melted chocolate, nuts and cherries. Mix well.

5Drop by tablespoon on greased and floured cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.

6Frost with chocolate frosting while still slightly warm.

7Makes 20 cakes.
