Chocolate Chipper Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 2 envelopes or 2 squares chocolate
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. pecan halves or chopped nuts

    In large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except chocolate chips and pecan halves.

    Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes at medium speed.

    Pour batter into 13 x 9-inch pan (greased on bottom only).

    Sprinkle chips and nuts over batter. Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350° or until cake springs back in center.

    Serve plain or with Cool Whip or ice cream.
