- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1/3 c. cornstarch
- 3 c. milk
- 3 eggs, separated
- 3 Tbsp. margarine
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 baked 9-inch pastry shell
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1Combine first 4 ingredients in heavy saucepan.

2Mix well to remove lumps.

3Gradually add milk, stirring until blended.

4Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickens.

5Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly.

6Remove from heat.

7Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.

8Stir 1/4 of hot mixture into yolks.

9Add to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly.

10Cook for 2 minutes.

11Remove from heat and add margarine and vanilla.

12Pour into pastry shell.
