  • 2 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 egg whites (save for meringue)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp. or 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa

Directions

    Mix dry ingredients (sugar, flour, cocoa and salt), then add milk slowly.

    Beat well until smooth.

    Cook over hot water until thick.

    Add egg yolks and cook 5 minutes over hot water, stirring constantly.

    Remove from heat.

    Add butter and vanilla.

    Cool, then pour into baked pie shell.

    Cover with meringue; bake at 325° for 20 minutes until slightly browned.
