Chocolate Popcorn Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Hershey's cocoa
  • 3/4 c. light corn syrup
  • 2 tsp. cider vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 c. evaporated milk
  • 2 qt. popped corn

Directions

    Combine sugar, cocoa, corn syrup, vinegar and salt thoroughly in a heavy 4-quart saucepan.

    Add butter and cook, stirring constantly, over low heat until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.

    Gradually add evaporated milk.

    Cook and stir over low heat until mixture reaches 265° (hard ball stage) or until small amount dropped in cold water forms a hard ball.

    Stir into popcorn.

    Butter hands.

    Quickly roll large spoonfuls of mixture into 4-inch balls.

    Makes 20 balls.
