Chocolate Pound Cake

  • 2 sticks room temperature butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2/3 c. cocoa
  • 5 eggs

    Grease and flour large tube cake pan.

    Heat oven to 325°. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar.

    Add eggs one at a time.

    Sift together flour, baking powder, cocoa and salt.

    Add to creamed mixture with milk and vanilla.

    Mix well.

    Pour into greased and floured tube pan.

    Bake at 325° for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes or until you can insert a toothpick and it comes out clean.

    If desired, place semi-sweet chocolate morsels on top as soon as it comes out of the oven.
