Chocolate Pound Cake

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. cocoa
  • 3 c. plain flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 1/4 c. sweet milk
  • 3/4 tsp. red food coloring (optional)

    Cream butter and Crisco.

    Add sugar.

    Sift flour with 3/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt.

    Sift this 3 times.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition to butter and sugar mixture.

    Beat and add flour mixture.

    Add sweet milk and red cake coloring.

    Beat well.

    Bake in tube pan at 325° for 1 1/2 hours. Ice with Chocolate Icing.
