- 1/2 lb. butter
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 3 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. cocoa
- 3 c. plain flour, sifted
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 5 eggs
- 1 1/4 c. sweet milk
- 3/4 tsp. red food coloring (optional)
Directions

1Cream butter and Crisco.

2Add sugar.

3Sift flour with 3/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt.

4Sift this 3 times.

5Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition to butter and sugar mixture.

6Beat and add flour mixture.

7Add sweet milk and red cake coloring.

8Beat well.
-
9Bake in tube pan at 325° for 1 1/2 hours. Ice with Chocolate Icing.
