- 1 c. Pillsbury's Best all-purpose or unbleached flour
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts (if desired)
- 2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. melted shortening or oil
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
- 1 3/4 c. hot water
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients.

3Mix at medium speed until well blended.

4Spread in an ungreased 8 or 9-inch square pan.

5In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa and hot water; pour over batter.

6Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes or until cake is set.

7Serve warm or cool, topped with cream or whipped cream.
