Ingredients: 2 c. sugar; 2 c. flour; 1/2 c. shortening; 1 stick margarine; 1 c. water; 4 Tbsp. cocoa; 1/2 c. buttermilk; 2 eggs, beaten; 1 tsp. soda; 1 tsp. vanilla; 1 c. nuts (optional)

2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 stick margarine
1 c. water
4 Tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts (optional)

Directions

Sift together sugar and flour.

Bring to a boil in saucepan the shortening, margarine, water and cocoa.

Pour over flour and sugar while still hot.

Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, vanilla and nuts (optional).

Bake in a large sheet cake pan or two 8 x 1-inch cake pans for 20 minutes at 400°.

While cake is baking, make icing.
