Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. grated orange rind
  • 1 Tbsp. grated lemon rind
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • candied cherries, cut into pieces

Directions

    Cream butter; add sugar, creaming well.

    Add beaten egg yolks. Stir in flavoring, rinds, lemon juice and flour.

    Chill dough for 1 hour.

    While dough is chilling, chop walnuts and cut up candied cherries.

    Beat egg whites with a fork until foamy.

    Shape chilled dough into tiny balls.

    Dip top of dough in beaten egg white, then in chopped walnuts.

    Press a section of cherry into the middle. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for about 20 minutes or until slightly browned.
